Leyla Kabuli is a senior at Davis High School and a scholarship student at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, pre-college division. Ms. Kabuli serves as pianist for the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and has performed with the Ensemble SF and as a soloist with the Waring Festival Orchestra. She also appeared on NPR’s From the Top in 2016 and collaborated with the show to produce a powerful music video intended to raise viewers’ awareness of the international refugee crisis.
Recipient of the Sonoma County Philharmonic 2016-2017 Young Artist Award, Ms. Kabuli has also received a 2016 and 2017 National Young Arts Award, a Chopin Foundation Scholarship, and the Helen von Ammon Emerging Artist Award from San Francisco’s Noontime Concerts program. Her international piano competition prizes include first place awards from the Los Angeles Young Artists, American Protége, Wildflower Music, and eMuse competitions. She has also won top prizes in many other competitions.
Ms. Kabuli’s piano studies include master classes and other programs at Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Southeastern Piano Festival, Colburn Academy, and the International Institute for Young Musicians. In addition to piano, she also plays bassoon and violin. Passionately committed to social causes, she frequently volunteers for benefit events and shares her music with retirement communities and senior centers in the Bay Area.
